You cannot turn on the television, radio, Internet or look at the newspaper without hearing about the state of our economy. This is America. How did we get ourselves into this situation? Is it the governments fault? Last night in the Vice Presidential debate, Gov. Palin kept talking about the greed and corruption of Wall Street and Corporations. The reality is that our economy is experiencing serious problems.
If you are someone going through or having gone through a divorce, this can be pretty scary. Selling a house now, re-entering the job market, changing jobs, getting laid off, dividing up investments, knowing what to do with your finances? Who do you trust? Who do you believe about their prediction for the future? These are unsettling times.
Divorce brings enough stress of it's own. If you are not the one who handled investments and finances in your marriage, you may be wondering what to do? Here are some tips:
-
If you have a friend or family member that you trust, ask them to help you with a financial plan.
-
If not, ask people you know who they would recommend for financial planning.
-
Prepare a list of questions and concerns, meet with different people to get their perspectives, ask for references.
-
If you don't have the money to spend on a financial planner, do research on the Internet. It is amazing the wealth of information you can find on the Internet.
In the meantime, keep your focus on God. Seek Him and His will for you and your finances. Trust that God knows the state of the economy, He knows your needs, your resources and how you use them. He is your Provider, however you must do your part. Think about your spending habits. Make wise decisions to the best of your ability. Make positive confessions about your finances, daily.
The Lord shall command the blessing upon me in my storehouse and in all that I undertake…The Lord makes me to have a surplus of prosperity through the fruit of my body. He blesses me in the land which He gives me. Deuteronomy 28:8,11
My God will meet all my needs according to His glorious riches in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:19
Because I seek (inquire of and require) the Lord (by right of my need and on the authority of His Word), I shall not lack any beneficial thing. Psalm 34:10
